Ujjaini’s mood lifts the moment Ishaan agrees to meet her. At the same time, in his room, Ishaan is sitting with Nayanika, gently feeding her and telling her not to cry because seeing her upset is something he cannot handle. Nayanika tells him quietly that it has been years since anyone fed her like this. Ishaan promises that he will do this every time they meet from now on. The doorbell rings and he opens it to find Ujjaini and her friends standing there. Ujjaini is caught off guard seeing Nayanika in the room and asks what she is doing there. Nayanika simply says she came to see Ishaan one last time before he leaves. Ishaan backs her up, saying he wanted to meet her too before heading off. Ujjaini brings up something that has been bothering her — the receptionist had told them Ishaan wasn’t meeting anyone. Ishaan clarifies that instruction was meant for journalists, not for them, and invites everyone to stay for lunch.
He turns to Nayanika and asks why she had stopped eating earlier. Ujjaini is visibly thrown when she hears Ishaan address Nayanika so casually by her first name. Nayanika brushes it off, saying she has told him many times not to call her that, but these young people just don’t listen. Ujjaini points out that she and her friends are young too, so the comment applies to them as well. Ishaan says he can’t just lump everyone into generic terms — Nayanika is someone he genuinely considers a good friend. Rose, meanwhile, takes the opportunity to ask if Ishaan would consider coming to their freshers’ party. Ujjaini quickly adds that their budget is limited. Ishaan tells them not to worry about that, he’ll manage it. Ujjaini, a little defensive, says they don’t need any favours. Ishaan clarifies it isn’t a favour — he genuinely wants to connect with the younger crowd.
As things wind down, Nayanika wishes Ishaan a happy journey and turns to Ujjaini, asking if she’ll come along with her. Ujjaini’s response is sharp — she didn’t come there with Nayanika in the first place, and Nayanika hadn’t even told her she was coming. She tells her to go on her own since she has college to get to. Ishaan tells Nayanika to eat something before she leaves. Nayanika says she isn’t hungry. Ujjaini points out that Nayanika had actually been eating earlier and would have finished if they hadn’t walked in. Nayanika insists she’s already eaten and isn’t hungry. Ishaan tells her to take care of herself. She tells him the same and walks out.
Once she’s gone, Ishaan asks about the date for the freshers’ party. Rose tells him it’s next Saturday and he agrees right away. Ujjaini, slightly surprised at how quickly he said yes, asks him about it. Ishaan tells her this city holds a lot of memories for him and he isn’t going to miss a chance to come back to it.
Later, Neil calls Nayanika, wanting to know why she left the hospital early — he had sent an emergency patient her way and she wasn’t there. Nayanika tells him she had gone to meet someone and reminds him she doesn’t owe him an explanation for everything, though she gives him one anyway — she went to see Ishaan. Neil, a little thrown, jokes about her suddenly being a rock music fan, then shifts tone and brings up Ujjaini, saying he’s noticed some changes in her behaviour and that as parents they should both be paying attention. Nayanika doesn’t take it well. She tells him she sees nothing wrong with Ujjaini, and if Neil feels she hasn’t raised their daughter properly, Ujjaini is free to live with him if that’s what she wants. Neil tries to clarify that’s not what he meant, but Nayanika isn’t done — she tells him it’s easy to lecture from a distance without actually being there.
Back with the girls, Rose tells Ujjaini she’s overthinking things — Ishaan probably has plenty of friends abroad and this is just who he is. Ujjaini agrees and lets it go.
At home, Nayanika walks in later than usual. Indrani comments on it, and Jaya assumes it’s the traffic. Just then Nayanika’s phone rings — it’s Ishaan. Indrani assumes it’s Madhavi and tells Nayanika to take the call. Nayanika picks up. Ishaan tells her he’s about to leave and already feels a strange emptiness. Nayanika responds with just a soft “Hmm.” He asks her to come meet him at the airport next week. Again, all she says is “Hmm.” Shreya, sitting nearby, notices the entire exchange.
Baba assumes it must have been a patient calling. Shreya isn’t convinced — it didn’t sound like a patient call to her. Nayanika tells her it was a patient she happens to know personally, and as a working woman she can get calls at any hour. She then turns the question back, asking if Indrani usually talks to her own daughter this way. Indrani is taken aback — she says Nayanika has never spoken to her in such a sharp tone before.
What’s Coming Next
Shreya wonders how Ishaan agreed to the freshers’ party so easily. Ujjaini tells Nayanika she wasted good food that Ishaan had treated them to and should have eaten it. Shreya asks pointedly if Ishaan treated only Nayanika. Indrani asks why Nayanika didn’t mention any of this earlier. Nayanika explains that Ishaan’s plans changed and he wanted her to check on him. Shreya can’t resist a jab — these days, apparently, doctors make house calls to check on patients themselves.
Editor’s Take
That phone call at the end said more with two “Hmm”s than most scenes manage with full conversations, and Shreya catching it changes the trajectory of this entire track. Nayanika snapping at Indrani — something everyone in the house immediately noticed as out of character — is not a small detail, it’s a sign of how much is sitting unsaid in her right now. Ujjaini brushing off her own unease about Ishaan calling Nayanika by name so casually feels temporary at best; that question hasn’t actually gone away, it’s just been parked. And Neil bringing up Ujjaini’s behaviour while clearly not being around enough to notice anything himself is going to come back around, especially with Nayanika already on edge.
